WTT Podcast – WWI Zeppelin Bombing Raid On Guildford

Telling a little known story, we are joined by Guildford-based historian and writer, David Rose, for a walk that follows the track that Zeppelin L13 took, dropping bombs on Guildford, 110 years ago today…

Start: overlooking Guildford and the Cathedral, looking north from the top of The Mount.

Finish: looking across Shalford Park, wondering what is buried there! (All explained when you listen!)

Walk distance: Approx 2.5km, pretty much all downhill!

You can read David Rose’s excellent article, “Terror Zeppelin Raid On Guildford Was 100 Years Ago“, on the Guildford Dragon News website: https://guildford-dragon.com/terror-zeppelin-raid-on-guildford-was-100-years-ago-tonight/

Walk Duration: Under an hour, or slower if you want to listen along.

Car Parking: Free parking is available in the road at the top of The Mount, but be aware that it is limited to 2 hours, and all uphill at the end! An alternative would be to utilise the free Artington Park & Ride car park, and walk the roughly 2.5km to our “start point”. You could then make the most of the level walk back to the car at the end!

For a longer walk: You might enjoy exploring more of Guildford, or follow the River Wey Navigation to Godalming. Trains and buses run regularly from each town.

This amazing 1/72 scale model of L13 shows quite how big it is, and the configuration of its gondolas.
