Volunteer Seaborne Observers for D-Day

As part of the planning for D-Day and Operation Overlord, the question of minimising “friendly fire” incidents was discussed. Previous operations had been blighted with the problem, and a solution was sought.

Enter the pool of expert aircraft identifiers… The Royal Observer Corps.
